Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin : facts, incidents, accidents, circumstances, situations

In his work, Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin (born in 1957 in Ankara – died in Istanbul in 2007) dwelled upon issues of globalisation, which he perceived through the prism of ideas of the peripheries, inferiority and marginality. His artistic practice involved recording, gathering and processing images, dialects, signs and goods which circulate in the world. Cheap objects used by masses, amateur photography, advertisements, roadside architecture or third-rate design were interesting for him as expressions of hybrid, anonymous production of culture. Alptekin also documented inconspicuous events of everyday life, taking places at the periphery of attention.
