Abstract
This new monograph focuses on the last decades of prolific and diverse artistic production, "Stiched Worlds" grants an extensive guide to Britta Marakatt-Labba’s eloquent and acclaimed art of embroidery, sculpture and installations. Disclosing a voluminous portfolio with more than ninety artworks reproduced, this monograph also comprises a suit of poems by Sámi poet Linnea Axelsson and a conversation between artist colleague Lena Ylipää and the artist herself. Moreover, Embroidered Worlds includes three major discerning essays – by interdisciplinary Sámi scholar Britt Kramvig, Inuk art historian, scholar and curator Heather Igloliorte and writer, theorist and visual historian Jan-Erik Lundström – sharing broad perspectives on and insights into Marakatt-Labba’s artistic practice while exploring its principal themes such as Sámi culture, history and cosmology, decolonial practices, Indigenous identity and resilience, climate change, extractivist exploitation and the potential of sustainable living. Embroidered Worlds/Sággan mailmmit/Broderade världar is fully trilingual, with all texts – commissioned and written directly for the book – available in Sámi, English and Swedish. (bron: uitgever)
